 | | Lake Friendly Products | | The Lake Friendly Label criteria are based on Environment Canada’s EcoLogoM criteria.EcoLogoM was founded in 1988 and has grown to become North America’s largest and most respected environmental standard and certification mark. EcoLogoM provides assurance that the products and services bearing the logo meet stringent standards of environmental leadership. EcoLogoM certifies manufacturers of over 120 product and service categories, helping consumers identify the most environmentally sound choice. Although there are a large number of products that are certified through EcoLogoM, the initial phase of the Lake Friendly Campaign identifies hard surface cleaners, dish detergents (including dishwasher detergents) and laundry cleaners. These cleaners are all commonly used and can impact Lake Winnipeg. Since many of these products are disposed of down the drain, nutrients and other harmful chemicals eventually enter Lake Winnipeg through wastewater treatment facilities. Consumers can do their part by purchasing Lake Friendly Products and by encouraging local retailers to continue to increase the selection of EcoLogoMand Lake Friendly products available on store shelves. | | | | | |
